Without the artisans, there would be no innovation. Without the innovators, there would be no progress.

BC Distilled, the province’s premier artisan distillery festival, was launched in 2014 to shine a spotlight on BC's progressive local micro-distilleries. The 5th annual Main Tasting event returns to the Croatian Cultural Centre on April 14, and it is now the biggest festival of its kind in Canada. This is your chance to sample a diverse line-up of gin, whisky, vodka, bitters, brandies, liqueurs and other small batch spirits, while getting the unique opportunity to raise a glass with the people and producers behind the labels.

The 2014 edition launched with just 17 distilleries from BC and the Yukon. This year, 40 distilleries are confirmed to showcase their latest releases, including 12 newcomers who have opened since last year’s festival. Here are the 12 new distilleries to taste:

After Dark Distillery Ltd. (Sicamous), Crow's Nest Distillery (Abbotsford), Lucid Spirits (Delta), Moon Distillery (Victoria), Pacific Rim Distilling (Ucuelet), Resurrection Spirits (Vancouver), Salt Spring Shine Craft Distillery (Salt Spring Island), Stillhead Distillery (Duncan), Tailored Spirits (Vancouver), Taynton Bay Spirits (Invermere), The 101 Brewhouse + Distillery (Gibsons), Tumbleweed Spirits Craft Distillery (Osoyoos)

Our picks for the Main Tasting:

Ampersand Distilling Co. – We visited this family-run distillery about three years ago, when they were first setting up shop. Welcoming us with open arms (and hearts), their flagship gin is one of the best in BC for both quality, flavour and value.

Moon Distillery – BC Distilled is serving as the Vancouver launch for the first products from the Victoria family that runs the multi award-winning Moon Under Water Brewery and Pub. Curious to see what they’ll come up with? So are we.

Odd Society Spirits – Big winners at this year’s Canadian Artisan Spirit Competition and the 2018 Canadian Whisky Awards, distiller Gordon Glanz and his team offer a near unparalleled line up of libations that includes the popular East Van Vodka, Wallflower Gin and, of course, the Mia Amata Amaro.

101 Brewhouse + Distillery – The 101 has been turning heads with its quality craft beer and killer customer service (check out Bingo Night every Tuesday!) since it opened its doors in 2017 in Gibsons on the Sunshine Coast. If their spirits are as good as their beer, we’re in for a treate.

Don’t forget to stop by the onsite Legacy Liquor pop-up shop to purchase your favourites at the end of the night.
